A 20-year-old was fatally ejected from a vehicle and a 21-year-old passenger suffered non-critical injuries in a single-car crash Monday night in southern Minnesota.

The crash happened around 9:30 p.m. on the 3000 block of 195 St. W in Wells Township, which is just west of Faribault. The Rice County Sheriff's Office reports that a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta rolled over in the south ditch near Roberds Lake Blvd.

The driver, 20-year-old Joshua C. Holter, of Faribault, was ejected during the crash. Law enforcement arrived first at the scene and began treating Holter before the rescue squad arrived, but despite lifesaving efforts, Holter died at the scene.

A passenger in the vehicle, a 21-year-old man, was taken to an area hospital where he was treated and released.

The sheriff's office said the driver was not wearing a seat belt.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
