A man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in south Minneapolis early Friday morning, with Minneapolis police suspecting speed and alcohol may have factored in the wreck.
The crash was reported at 4:57 a.m. in the area of 45th St. E. and Cedar Ave. S. – just west of Lake Hiawatha and northwest of Lake Nokomis.
Police arrived at the scene and found a man believed to be in his 30s behind the wheel of the SUV that had slammed into a tree. The driver wasn't breathing and had no pulse.
Officers moved the man to the ground and performed CPR until paramedics took over and transported him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time after arrival.
The victim's identity will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office at a later date.
