Driver dies when dump truck crashes into utility pole in Rosemount

The driver of a dump truck was killed in a crash in Rosemount over the weekend. 

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office announced Monday that the crash happened just after noon Saturday in the 12900 block of Blaine Ave. E. 

The driver, identified as Robert William Niznik, of Hudson, Wisconsin, was traveling north on Blaine Ave. E. when he left the roadway and crashed into an Xcel Energy utility pole. Niznik was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Police report that the dump truck was loaded with gravel at the time of the crash. 

According to his obituary, Niznik was born and raise in north Minneapolis, later graduating from Mounds View High School. He was employed by Valdes Lawn Care and Landscape in Lake Elmo.
