A 23-year-old St. Cloud man died when he was ejected from an SUV in a rollover crash in St. Paul early Monday morning.
The crash was reported at the intersection of Johnson Parkway and Maryland Avenue by a passerby at 12:59 a.m., with the 911 caller reporting that a man was lying in the middle of the road.
Saint Paul Police Department says its officers responded to the scene and found a 23-year-old St. Cloud man unconscious and not breathing. Three officers took turns with chest compressions and life-saving efforts before medics arrived and pronounced the man dead.
"It appeared the SUV had rolled over and the driver (the man found lying in the street) had been ejected," St. Paul PD said in a statement.
Additionally, a man who lives near the crash scene told police that he was inside and heard screeching tires and then saw the SUV roll. Other possible witnesses told police that they heard gunshots in the area just before the crash.
A gun was found outside the crashed vehicle, though police do not know if the gun had anything to do with the crash.
Police do believe the man was driving at a high rate of speed when the vehicle rolled.
An investigation is ongoing.
