Officers found the man shot in a crashed vehicle at Lowry Avenue and 2nd Street Northeast.

A driver has died after being shot in Northeast Minneapolis on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Minneapolis Police Department, officers responded to a motor vehicle crash at Lowry Avenue and 2nd Street Northeast at around 2:52 p.m. Sunday.

When officers located the vehicle, they found the only occupant of the car, a male, slumped over with a gunshot wound. Officers provided medical aid before the victim was transported to the hospital. He died shortly after, according to MPD.

An initial investigation found that the vehicle was traveling west when the driver was shot. He then made a U-turn before striking a pole.

The Medical Examiner's Office will release the victim’s identity in the coming days.
