Investigators are seeking a driver who fled the scene after crashing into the Octagon House Museum in Hudson – but left lots of clues for police, including the vehicle and a wallet, Patch reports.

The driver took off on foot after the hasty 1 a.m. Saturday crash and escape, which was viewed by two witnesses.

A witness who called police said the vehicle "swerved sharply, came across the lawn here, slammed into the house at well over 30 mph," KSTP reported.

The blue sport utility vehicle left at the scene is registered in Minnesota to a person who Hudson police believe is the father of the suspect driver, Patch reported.

The crash badly damaged the porch and several columns that support the porch roof. There are photos of the damage to the carefully tended building on the museum's Facebook page.

The 158-year-old eight-sided house-turned-museum was once the home to four generations of the Moffat-Hughes family, but was purchased by the St. Croix Historical Society in 1964 and turned into a museum.

"Never a dull moment at the Octagon house," museum director Heidi Rushmann told Patch.
