Driver killed after crashing SUV into building in Brooklyn Center

Memorial Day marks the beginning of the 100 deadliest days of summer on Minnesota roads.

The driver of an SUV that crashed into a Brooklyn Center warehouse on Friday night was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. 

The crash happened around 8 p.m., with the still unidentified motorist crash into the Sign-Zone Inc. building located at 6850 Shingle Creek Pkwy. First responders performed lifesaving efforts but the driver died at the scene. 

Police suspect that alcohol and speed were factors in the crash. 

No further information has been released. 

Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day is considered the 100 deadliest days of summer on Minnesota roads. 

"Memorial Day begins the most challenging 100 days on our roads," said the Minnesota State Patrol in a tweet. "Over the last five years, 640 people have died on Minnesota roads between #MemorialDay and #LaborDay. Please drive smart and help us all get home safely at the end of the day."
