The victim in the fatal single-vehicle wreck in south Minneapolis last Friday, Dec. 11, has been identified as a 33-year-old Minneapolis man.
Mesa Branton Olsen Strand was identified as the driver who died of multiple blunt force injuries, according to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office. Strand on 45th St. E. near Cedar Ave. S. in south Minneapolis just before 5 a.m. He was transported to Hennepin Healthcare where he was pronounced dead at 5:41 a.m.
Minneapolis Police Department is investigating the crash. In an initial press release, the department suggested that speed and alcohol may have factored in the crash.
Police arrived at the scene and found Strand behind the wheel of the SUV that had slammed into a tree. He wasn't breathing and had no pulse.
Officers moved Strand to the ground and performed CPR until paramedics took over and transported him to the hospital.
