Drunken-driving suspect runs from scene of crash, gets frostbite
A suspected drunken-driver ran from the scene after crashing his pickup, and then suffered frostbite as a result.
The incident happened early Friday when a 28-year-old man from Big Lake crashed into a power pole in Orrock Township, west of Zimmerman, before fleeing the scene on foot.
He was found a short time later walking barefoot a few blocks from the crash, and had severe frostbite on his feet.
The suspect, who showed signs of impairment when police found him, also suffered a head injury in the crash, and was taken to North Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The crash happened north on County Road 5, with the suspect's GMC pickup lrasving the road and hitting the pole, with the pole then landing on the road.
It knocked out power to at least one home, the Sherburne County Sheriff's Office said.
The wind chills in Sherburne County last night were between 28 and 31 below zero. Frostbite can happen in as little as 10 minutes in those conditions.
