A 70-year-old Duluth man has died 10 days after being injured in a home invasion.

Larry Watczak was assaulted during the robbery at his home on the 800 block of S. Lake Ave. just before 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2.

According to a GoFundMe page set up to help with his medical expenses, Watczak was resting on his sofa when a man walked through his front door and hit him with a blunt object.

The robber then stole money from him along with a flip phone and a tablet.

The 70 year old was able to call 911 using an old phone he charged, and was admitted to a hospital with a brain bleed that required emergency surgery.

He had been in a critical condition since then, with the GoFundMe page confirming that he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday morning.

A man named Darrell Mayhew was arrested last Sunday in connection with the burglary and assault of Watczak, with KBJR reporting authorities are now considering amending the charges in light of Watczak's death.
