As far as heroin-related arrests go, it's been a busy week in Duluth.

Duluth police arrested two people pending heroin-related charges, Friday.

The police department posted to Facebook saying that with the help of the Lake Superior Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force, officers arrested two men – ages 24 and 38 – accused of possessing and selling the drug.

After receiving some complaints, officials executed a search warrant in a home on the 2700 block of West 3rd Street.

Police say they seized the drug and found evidence of sales.

Neither of the suspects have been named, but officials say the 24-year-old is facing drug sales charges and the 38-year-old faces possession charges.

Both have been taken to jail.

And the night before, Duluth PD says officials arrested another man accused of selling the drug.

The suspect – who is described as a 30-year-old male from Chicago and has not been named – was found at a hotel in Carlton County and arrested.

Police say they found heroin and a lot of money. Now he's being charged with selling the drug.

And on Monday, there were two more arrests.

Police say they arrested 27-year-old Akeem Dominique Thompson of Chicago and 34-year-old Sarah Grace Yeske of Duluth.

The arrests came after officials say they seized 13 grams of heroin packaged for sale.

Those suspects also face drug sales charges.

Fighting opioids in Duluth

To combat the uptick in opioid overdoses, the Duluth Police Department announced this week that it's received 100 Narcan kits – the drug used to reverse overdoses.

Additionally, all of Duluth’s officers have undergone special training on how to recognize opioid overdoses and treat people with the new kits.

The area has seen a “dramatic increase” in calls related to opioid overdoses in the last three years, and police say these kits have proven “very successful.”

According to a report, officials seized 47 percent more heroin across the state in 2015 than they did the year before. You can read that full report here.
