The Twin Cities food scene is about to expand, as a longtime husband-and-wife team makes a splash with a new restaurant in Minneapolis and a longtime St. Paul location gets a fresh tenant, new name and new menu.

The Hot Dish food blog in City Pages is counting down the launch of Brasserie Zentral, (505 Marquette Ave. S.) to be located in the Soo Line building in downtown Minneapolis. The European-style brasserie, featuring a skyway-level cafe, wine bar, and wine and cheese shop, is a new venture from Russell and Desta Klein, the team behind the well-regarded Meritage in downtown St. Paul.

The Business Journal notes that the restaurant will be in the first floor of the historic 19-story building, which is being converted from office space into luxury apartments.

According to the Brasserie Zentral Facebook page, eager eaters can make online reservations at the new spot, which is set to officially open on April 21.

Meanwhile, across the river, there's a new tenant in the former Serlin's Cafe on the city's east side. Serlin's closed in December after 67 years in the spot on Payne Avenue.

The Pioneer Press reports the newly remodeled space will be called Cook St. Paul. (1124 Payne Ave.) Boyhood friends Eddie Wu and Charles Cook are putting the final touches on their from-scratch, locally-sourced menu that will feature what the newspaper termed "standard breakfast and lunch fare," with a few Korean items thrown in to keep it interesting.

Breakfast and lunch service begins April 17. A beer and wine license is pending; when it is approved, dinner service will begin, possibly as early as this summer.

Amid the news of openings, MinneapolisStPaul magazine noted the abrupt closing of Rye Deli (1930 Hennepin Ave.) in the Lowry Hill neighborhood of Minneapolis, which announced the end of service via its Facebook page. The deli had been open for three years.
