The Minnesota State Patrol has reported hundreds of crashes across the Twin Cities Saturday morning after overnight snow.

Officials say there were 231 crashes between 12 a.m. and 10 a.m. Saturday. According to Lt. Tiffani Nielson, 27 people were injured in the Twin Cities area.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation has reported crashes and spinouts on westbound I-94, southbound I-35W, eastbound I-494, and Highways 169 and 52.

The National Weather Service says more than an inch of the white stuff landed as a heavier burst of snow passed over the southwest metro area between 6-7 a.m.

This comes after lighter snow that's been moving east to west through the wider Twin Cities and southeast Minnesota since midnight.

New Richland, near Albert Lea, got five inches.

According to Accuweather any accumulation isn't likely to last long, the snow is expected to stop, and while the Twin Cities is in for a chillier weekend than seen in recent weeks, daytime temperatures will still be in the 40s.
