Early morning shooting on St. Paul's Grand Ave leaves 1 dead, 1 injured

It happened near a popular bar just before 3:30 a.m.

St. Paul police are investigating a double shooting that proved fatal for one victim early Sunday morning. 

It happened on the 800 block of Grand Ave, near a number of popular shops and restaurants, including Paper Source and Billy's on Grand. 

According to a news release from the police department, officers responded to the scene on a report of shots fired and two individuals down, finding the victims — both adult males — lying in the street just before 3:30 a.m.

Bystanders were performing CPR on one of the victims, who was unconscious and not breathing. St. Paul Fire medics arrived and ultimately pronounced him dead at the scene. 

The second man's injuries "did not seem as dire," and he was transported to Regions Hospital, where he's expected to survive. 

The block between Victoria Street and S. Avon Street was closed off to traffic and pedestrians Sunday morning as the police department's homicide, forensic and video management teams gathered evidence. 

The circumstances of the shooting are still under investigation, and no arrests have been made. Anyone with information about the crime is urged to call 651-266-5650.

The deceased man will be identified in the coming days by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner.

This is the 25th homicide of the year in Saint Paul, the release notes.
