The college student from Minnesota who is facing multiple charges of sexual assault has been expelled from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

A university committee upheld a recommendation to expel Alec Cook, 20, of Edina, from the university for violating student conduct policies, according to Channel 3000.

He has the right to appeal the decision and his attorneys indicated that he would be doing so. His expulsion won't be final until the appeal period is up, the TV station notes.

Cook faces 21 charges including strangulation, sexual assault, stalking and false imprisonment involving 10 women dating back to March 2015.

An initial complaint came from a woman who said she had been assaulted repeatedly by Cook and had her at one point in a "death grip," though Cook's lawyer said the encounter was consensual.

After her complaint was made public, several more women came forward accusing him of assault.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports the business major was banned from campus in October through an emergency suspension after charges were filed.

He was released from Dane County Jail in December after his bail was reduced from $200,000 to $100,000. He pleaded not guilty to the charges in February.

The newspaper notes he has until Mar. 24 to appeal his expulsion.
