Edina tables Byerly's massive overhaul project

Plans to build a brand new 47,000-square-foot Byerly's grocery store and an apartment complex on the site of the existing Byerly's along France Avenue near Southdale Mall have been put on hold, the Edina Patch reports.

Edina-based Lund Food Holdings, which owns the Byerly's chain, has been working to redevelop the site for more than a year, the Business Journal reports.

After three hours of debate Wednesday, Edina's Planning Commission voted to table the project until their March 13 meeting. The Patch says members still have concerns regarding pedestrian access, a planned water feature and the grocery store's loading dock.

The new store would be constructed in the parking lot of the existing Byerly's store -- which would remain open until the new one is completed.

The project also calls for a 109-unit apartment building, a 77-unit building and a 60-unit building. The largest complex would be built at the same time as the new supermarket.
