Edina woman, 23, killed in head-on crash in Eden Prairie

The driver of the other vehicle is fighting for his life.

The Minnesota State Patrol has identified the victim in Wednesday's crash as Ivania Elizabeth Batres, 23, of Edina.

A woman from Edina was killed on Wednesday evening in a crash on Highway 101 in Eden Prairie.

The 23-year-old was in a Honda Civic traveling southbound on the highway near Chocktaw Circle, when for some reason her vehicle veered into oncoming traffic.

Her Civic was struck head-on by a northbound Chevy Silverado, and she died from her injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver of the Silverado, identified as 36-year-old Joe Stephens of Minnetonka, is currently in the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The State Patrol says he was wearing a seatbelt.

The crash was reported at 9:52 p.m.

The Civic driver has not yet been identified by authorities, with more information expected to be released later on Thursday.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation says that as of Aug. 6, there have been 195 traffic fatalities in Minnesota this year.
