An elderly couple from a small Wisconsin town just southeast of Duluth, slain Dec. 7, was remembered by friends and family at a potluck dinner Sunday as straight-forward, caring, loving people – and big Green Bay Packers fans, WDIO TV reports.

Family members were touched that as many as 200 people turned out to pay their respects to the family of Jim Crain, 79, and 76-year-old Eunice “Crickett” Crain. Many wore Packer green and yellow in tribute, WDIO reports.

"It feels great," grandson Jim Crain said. "It shows how much they were really loved."

The grisly killing of the couple left the town of about 1,000 people stunned.

Jim Crain's father, James “Jimmy” Crain, 44, has been charged in the brutal slaying of his parents. He is accused of using a butcher knife in the grisly attack, and he may have tried to stab himself with the knife in his neck and wrists, according to charging documents in the case. He remained in a medically induced coma, at last report.

Police had gotten a call from Eunice Crain the night of the killings at about 6 p.m., a call that ended abruptly after she told the operator that her son was beating them. Deputies arrive about 20 minutes later and found the couple dead, and 44-year-old Jim Crain bleeding in the bathroom, Northland's Newscenter reported.

Jim Crain, the grandson, told WDIO that he hoped people would celebrate the way his grandparents lived and not remember them for how they died.

"It was complete shock," Jim Crain told WDIO of his father's arrest. "I knew my dad was not right, but I never expected anything like this. It's crazy."

A funeral for the couple is expected this spring or summer.
