An Anoka County man is lucky to be alive after his SUV plunged into an icy creek in Isanti County. The rescue was one of several first responders were called to around the state.

KARE reports the Isanti County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a car in the creek that came in Friday afternoon. An Anoka County deputy who arrived first on the scene put on a dry suit and headed into the water to check the vehicle.

Because of the condition of the vehicle and its position in the water, the Jaws of Life were used to get the driver's door open, where first responders found a 53-year-old man. Police say he was up to his chest in water and was holding his cell phone above the waterline.

KSTP indentifies the man as Yang Vee of East Bethel. The man was in the water almost 30 minutes, the Isanti County Sheriff's Office said. After he was pulled from the SUV, Vee was put into a warm vehicle. He was later released to his son and transported home.

Meanwhile, WCCO reported that two people managed to avoid significant injuries after their vehicle broke through the ice on Lake Ida in Douglas County on Sunday night.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, a man and his 16-year-old daughter were in the car when it broke through, but both were able to escape from the vehicle and make it to solid ice.

And Detroit Lakes Online reported a man was arrested after driving into open water on Otter Tail Lake Saturday night, about 20 miles northeast of Fergus Falls, Minn. The man and a passenger were able to get out of the partially submerged vehicle. The driver was arrested for DWI.
