Executive director of Minnesota DFL charged with DWI

Minnesota DFL Party executive director Corey Day has been charged with two counts of driving while intoxicated following an accident in December, the Star Tribune reports.

Day was arrested on suspicion of DWI Dec. 15 in south Minneapolis. He is accused of hitting two parked cars.

Day faces charges of second degree and third degree DWI, which are each gross misdemeanors. Each count carries a possible maximum sentence of one year in prison and a $3,000 fine.

According to the Star Tribune, Day told police that he was driving straight down and "someone had jumped out at him causing him to strike the parked vehicles." He also told police that he was coming from a holiday party, where he had a few glasses of wine, the paper reports.

Public records also indicated that Day was also charged with and pleaded guilty to DWI in 2009, the Star Tribune reports.

Day, 37, has been with the state DFL since 2011.
