Expect more delays, longer security lines at MSP Airport

Travelers at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport can expect more delays due to last month's automatic federal spending cuts, the Star Tribune reports.

The Federal Aviation Administration has notified air traffic controllers to prepare for a 10 percent cut in hours. The reduced staff could delay planes by 30 minutes.

“We simply don’t have enough information yet from federal authorities to know exactly what challenges travelers at MSP are likely to face, but we are very concerned,” Patrick Hogan, a spokesman for the airport, told the newspaper.

Planned furloughs, or unpaid days off, for controllers at MSP will begin April 21 and continue through Sept. 30.

The TSA has warned that peak-period wait times at security checkpoints could also double at major airports.
