Lakefield-based Hussong Manufacturing, known for its Kozy Heat products, is recalling about 16,000 gas fireplaces and fireplace inserts due tan explosion hazard.

The company has received nine reports of gas being released prematurely and exploding, the Consumer Product Safety Commission's recall notice says. Nobody has been seriously injured, but minor property damage occurred and there were two reports of abrasions.

The recall affects 22 models, sold under the name Kozy Heat Fireplaces, Ambiance Fireplaces and Stellar Hearth Products. In all, about 13,600 units in the U.S. and 2,170 in Canada are affected.

They were manufactured between October 2009 and April 2013. A full list of the serial numbers (which can be found on a silver testing label attached by a chain and next to the gas valve of the fireplace or fireplace insert) and manufacturing dates can be found at this website.

The company issued a statement saying anyone with these models should stop using their fireplace immediately and contact the dealer where it was purchased. If that dealer is no longer in business, call Hussong Manufacturing at (800) 253-4904.

The problem part – the ignition board – will be replaced free of charge.

The following model numbers are affected: CSK-31-IPI, CSK-335-IPI, 911-IPI, 911XL-IPI, JOR-30, JOR-34, MPS-30, MPS-34, RFD-30, RFD-34, NCL-195, DSL-36-IPI, DEL-36-IPI, PRC-36-IPI, 56701-IPI, 55345-IPI, TMT-3875-IPI, SLA-42, INT-100, INT-200, CML-58-S, CML58-S.

According to its website, Hussong Manufacturing was established in 1976. It's a privately-held, family-owned business. SalesFuel says the company has between 100 and 249 employees, and has annual sales from $10-49.9 million.
