A 76-year-old man suffered only minor injuries and was able to crawl out of the rubble after his home was leveled by an explosion on Tuesday.

The explosion happened at 8:43 a.m. in the 500 block of Morningside Ave. in Paynesville, Minnesota. Paynesville Police Department responded to calls of the explosion with officers arriving at the scene to find the home collapsed.

Dennis Pederson was inside his house when it exploded. Miraculously, he was able to crawl out of the debris and was mostly unharmed. He was treated at the scene and did not require a trip to the hospital.

Pederson is being helped with temporary housing by the Red Cross.

A fire in the wake of the explosion was extinguished by Paynesville Fire Department, but it also caused minor damage to a neighboring house.

The cause of the explosion is being investigated by the State Fire Marshal and the Minnesota Office of Pipeline Safety.
