Big Lake High School is cleaning up a significant mess caused by malfunctioning sprinkler heads during last week's extremely cold weather.

The school posted video to Facebook showing standing water in the band and vocal rooms, in addition to flooded nearby offices.

"The extreme cold temperatures caused several mechanical issues this week," the school wrote in the Facebook post on Friday.

"The most serious was the sprinkler heads in the high school band room malfunctioning yesterday shortly before noon. There was significant flooding throughout the band and vocal rooms and adjoining offices."

Students have been moved to other areas of the school for classes while cleaning and repair work is ongoing. It's not clear how much damage was done or what the cost of repairs will be.

Big Lake Fire Department responded to the school after a fire alarm was activated, and they stuck around to helped move equipment out of the impacted rooms.
