FAA: Don't use your Samsung Galaxy Note 7 on an airplane

If you have a Samsung Galaxy Note 7, don't use it while flying.

That's a request from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). In a news release Thursday, the agency is "strongly" advising travelers not to turn on or charge their Galaxy Note 7 on an airplane because of "recent incidents and concerns raised by Samsung."

The FAA is also asking people not to put it in any checked baggage.

This advisory comes about a week after Samsung said it would stop selling the Galaxy Note 7 and was recalling about 2.5 million devices after getting reports they were exploding and starting on fire.

As of Sept. 1, Samsung said there had been 35 cases reported globally following issues with the battery cell. The device hit the market in mid-August.

ABC News calls the FAA's advisory an "extraordinary step," with the publication noting Australian airlines were among the first to ask travelers not to turn on their Galaxy Note 7 devices during flights.
