This story is a testament to Minnesota Nice and the power of the internet.

An ice fishing house belonging to the family of Meghan Wiebe, which had been built by her late father as a gift to his grandchildren, was stolen from her driveway on Briggs Lake, in Clear Lake, last Thursday.

Wiebe took to Facebook to appeal for information about its disappearance, and got a fantastic response as her post on Friday was shared more than 8,000 times across the social network.

It led to a tip to the Stearns County Sheriff who in turn found the ice house on a property in Clearwater, with KARE 11 reporting it had been spray painted blue and stripped of its contents.

The ice house had been built by Wiebe's father Dennis with the intention of taking her children out ice fishing. Unfortunately, Dennis suffered a brain tumor and died last year.

The theft such a personal, hand-crafted possession had been a huge blow to the Wiebe family, with Meghan writing in her initial Facebook post: "This was a very special fish hour that cannot be replaced."

The fish house was stolen in broad daylight from the family's driveway, and Minnesota Ice Fishing Reports – one of the Facebook groups to have shared the appeal – noted it had been seen being pulled by a Dodge Dakota in the Monticello area.

One person, responding to the Facebook appeal, noted that a very similar looking ice house had appeared for sale on Craigslist, though the ad was later taken down.

KARE 11 reports that police think they know the person responsible for the theft and are tracking them down.
