Fake signs telling road users and pedestrians to beware "easily startled" police have been spotted in the Twin Cities.

The signs, reading "Warning: Twin Cities Police Easily Startled" and showing a stick man cop wildly firing bullets, have been placed at Snelling and University in St. Paul and in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood of Minneapolis.

KARE 11 shared a picture of a third sign that was removed overnight by road construction crews.

The warning is in reference to the shooting of Justine Damond in Minneapolis last week by police officer Mohamed Noor, which his partner Matthew Harrity said happened after he was "startled by a loud noise."

Damond, wearing pajamas, walked up to their squad car shortly after the apparent noise, and when she approached the driver's side window of the car, Noor fired and fatally wounded her in the abdomen.

A picture of the St. Paul sign was shared on Reddit and went viral, being viewed more than 700,000 times as of Monday morning and hit the website's front-page.

Police in St. Paul and Minneapolis told the Star Tribune that they were unaware of the signs. They didn't comment on them.

Officer-involved shootings are once again dominating the headlines in Minnesota, with the killing of Australia native Damond attracting international attention.

It follows the controversial killing of Philando Castile by St. Anthony Police during a traffic stop last year, and Jamar Clark by Minneapolis police during an arrest in 2015.

Just over a week before Damond's death, Minneapolis police came under fire after an officer shot two dogs during a false alarm burglary call.
