A fire truck en route to a report of a downed power line in Orono was nearly crushed by a tree during on Monday evening.
The Long Lake Fire Department says it was on its way to a scene when strong winds, reported to be 60+ mph in the west metro area, knocked a tree into the road in front of their Engine 12 truck.
The tree did enough damage that the fire engine will be out of commission for a while.
"Luckily no one was hurt and our truck was the only vehicle involved," the department said on Facebook. "This truck will be out of service until further notice. It will be towed to Station 1 until we can strip out the equipment and have an insurance adjuster review it."
As of 7 a.m. Tuesday there are still more than 1,000 people without power from Monday's storms, according to Xcel Energy's outage map.
Monday's severe winds knocked over trees and power lines and even submerged boats on Lake Minnetonka.
