Family, friends attend vigil for Anoka man found in rented RV

Over 100 people gathered to remember the 22-year-old Anoka man, who was found in a cargo compartment of a rented RV, at a vigil Sunday night.

Family and friends gathered at the Northstar commuter rail station in Anoka, where Kevin Casserly was last seen alive. He disappeared last November and was found in an RV Thursday.

The RV had previously been stored near the train station, the Star Tribune reports.

“We walked right by him,” his sister, Alexandra Casserly, told the newspaper. “We searched this whole area.”

Alexandra Casserly and nearly 100 other people searched in the snow for Kevin Casserly last winter. A Help Find Kevin Casserly Facebook page was also set up to help in the search for the missing father of two.

Kevin Casserly's two children, who also attended the vigil, know their father is dead, but are having trouble understanding what that means, the Star Tribune reports.

His family and friends are also struggling to understand what happened, the paper notes. The Anoka County Sheriff's Office hasn't said how Kevin Casserly died and aren't expected to release any new information until at least Monday.

Police say Casserly had a history of drug abuse, but his friends say he was starting to turn that part of his life around.

Kevin Casserly's body was found Thursday by a group of Minnesota friends who rented the RV as part of a bachelor party celebration. The men were on their way to Louisville for the Kentucky Derby when they stopped in Winona Thursday night to pick up another friend. They pulled over in the parking lot of a closed Shopko store to check on a foul odor, opened the exterior storage bin, and found the body.

WCCO reports one of the men who rented the RV was told by the vehicle’s owner to not open the storage area where Casserly was discovered. The owner’s identity has not been revealed by investigators, the station adds.

No one has been arrested in connection with Kevin Casserly's death. FOX 9 says investigators did question all members of the bachelor party, but none of them are considered suspects.
