Highway patrol officials say the five members of a Minnesota family killed in a crash in Kansas were not wearing seatbelts. At least two of the other 13 people in the vehicle were wearing restraints. A 17-year-old member of the family from Jordan, Minnesota was at the wheel at the time of the crash.

Rollover crash kills husband, wife in Itasca County

A Grand Rapids couple is dead after a single-vehicle crash on Highway 46 northeast of Bemidji just before midnight Saturday night, the Star Tribune reports. The Minnesota State Patrol reports the crash killed the driver, Joy L. Wilson, 54, and her husband, Donald G. Wilson, 56. Neither were wearing their seat belt.

DPS: 80% of victims killed in recent crashes were unbelted

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety says eight of the first 10 people killed in traffic accidents so far this year were not wearing their seat belts. The department also reports that only 20 percent of the 23 people killed in December were buckled-up. Between 2008-2010, about 45 percent of occupants killed were properly using their seat belts.
