Family seeks help after mother of 4 gunned down in St. Paul
A St. Paul family is mourning a young mother who was shot and killed for unknown reasons last week.
Ashli K. Johnson was found dead in her car near the intersection of Hall Avenue and Stevens Street West early Wednesday morning, having suffered "apparent gunshot wounds."
A press release from the St. Paul Police Department says multiple 911 callers reported hearing gunfire near the scene, leading to the discovery of Johnson's body by police.
Johnson's family have launched a GoFundMe to help with funeral expenses; seeking $5,000, it has exceeded that number in just a couple of days.
Family members tell the Pioneer Press they still have no answers as to who shot Johnson or why, with the victim's sister saying she's "not certain why Johnson drove to the West Side" the morning of her death.
“She had a rough life and she didn’t deserve to die so young,” her sister told the paper, adding, “I just hope that somebody knows something, and I hope that somebody says something.”
No arrests have been made so far. Anyone with information about the crime is urged to contact police at 651-266-5650.
According to police, Johnson's death was the city's 15th homicide of 2020.
