Farmington woman killed while crossing the highway

A 38-year-old Farmington woman was killed when she was struck by a vehicle on Saturday night. 

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, April Janeen Sterling was crossing Hwy. 3 at 209th Street West in Farmington when she was hit by a northbound 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe. Sterling was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The fatal crash happened around 7:20 p.m. and road conditions were described as "snow/ice" at the time, according to the State Patrol. 

The driver of the vehicle that struck her was not impaired, the crash report says. 

According to KARE 11, the speed limit is 45 mph and there are no sidewalks or crosswalks in the area, and people familiar with that stretch of road feel that it's dangerous.
