Pedestrian killed crossing Hwy. 252 in Brooklyn Park

UPDATE 9:30 P.M.

The Minnesota State Patrol says that a pedestrian was killed Monday evening when they were hit by a northbound car while crossing Highway 252.

The pedestrian was walking westbound against a "Do Not Cross" sign at Brookdale Drive when they were struck by a Hyundai Elantra. 

It marks the 6th pedestrian fatality on Twin Cities roads since the start of the year.

A rush-hour crash in Brooklyn Park caused the closure of northbound Hwy. 252 on Monday evening.

The crash was reported at 5:37 p.m. on north 252 at Brookdale Boulevard.

Few details about the vehicle(s) involved in the crash are available at this stage, but the Minnesota State Patrol did confirm there had been a fatality.

More information is expected to be released this evening.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation said that northbound traffic is being diverted onto Brookdale Blvd.

The Minnesota Office of Traffic Safety says there have been 13 road deaths in the first two weeks of 2019, compared to 7 at the same time last year.
