Fatal shooting is St. Paul's 7th homicide in September
Police in St. Paul are investigating the city's 7th homicide in September alone after a fatal shooting on Tuesday evening.
Officers were called at 7:30 p.m. to the intersection of Mendota Street and Freemont Avenue East, where a man was found suffering a gunshot wound to the chest.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
It's the 21st homicide of the year in St. Paul and the 7th in September alone.
The growing violence this month comes amid a wider discussion about policing levels in St. Paul, with Mayor Melvin Carter looking to reduce the number of sworn officers, while police chief Todd Axtell wants to increase them.
