A father was arrested after a kidnapping in St. Paul on Friday that prompted a brief Amber Alert.

The 30-year-old man is accused of kidnapping and threatening four of his children, aged 5, 7, 8 and 9.

He's alleged to have driven off with them in minivan from a location on the 1200 block of White Bear Avenue in St. Paul around 2:15 p.m.

After initial efforts to locate them were unsuccessful, concern over their welfare led St. Paul police to issue an Amber Alert through the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension at 5 p.m.

But within a few minutes, the suspect and his kids were found on the 4000 block of Denton Way in Inver Grove Heights by a St. Paul police officer.

"All four children appeared to be unharmed and are being examined by medical personnel," police said.

Their father has been jailed on suspicion of kidnapping and terroristic threats, and awaits formal charges.
