The search for a woman in northern Minnesota who's been missing for nearly a month now involves the FBI.

Amy Dow, 27, was last seen leaving her home Jan. 27 in Ponemah, Minnesota, which is a small town tucked on the Red Lake Indian Reservation between the east sides of Upper Red Lake and Lower Red Lake in Beltrami County.

It's not been made clear why the FBI is assisting the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and Red Lake Police Department with the investigation.

A spokesperson from the Minneapolis branch tells GoMN that the FBI's involvement in this case is simply a helping hand from their branch in Bemidji, which is located in Beltrami County.

FBI is also involved in missing persons cases when a child is involved, or if it concerns an interstate crime, but the spokesperson didn't indicate any such activity in this case.

Dow is 5'3'' and weighs 98 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes.

Other identifiers for Dow include two moles on the left side of her face and a tattoo that says "Castillo" on the left side of her chest.

Anyone with information about Dow is asked to contact the Red Lake Police Department at 218-679-3313 or the FBI in Minneapolis at 763-569-8000.
