The number of Minnesota clinics that received drugs from a Massachusetts pharmacy tied to the recent fungal meningitis outbreak is fewer than initially reported, according to The Associated Press.

The Food and Drug Administration is now saying that 111 clinics in Minnesota -- not 129 -- received the steroid made by the New England Compounding Center.

The Minnesota Department of Health says there have been nine cases of fungal meningitis diagnosed in the state since the outbreak and no fatalities.

To date there have been 338 cases of meningitis tied to the meningitis outbreak in 18 states, resulting in 25 deaths, the Centers for Disease Control reported.

The Minnesota Department of Heath says a fourth case of fungal meningitis has been identified in the state. The patient is a woman in her 70s. Two other Minnesota women, both in their forties, with the infection were released from the hospital last week and are being treated on an outpatient basis.

Doctors have diagnosed two Minnesota women, both in their 40s, with meningitis after they received injectable steroids from a Massachusetts pharmacy, the Minnesota Department of Health said in a news release Saturday. Officials expect to see more cases in the state as the nearly one thousand patients treated with the tainted products are notified.

Health officials have confirmed three cases of fungal meningitis in Minnesota, while hundreds of other patients who were injected with a recalled steroid are being tested. An executive with one of the clinics that dispensed the steroid says officials are reassuring patients while also arranging tests for those who need them. Nationwide, the death toll in the fungal meningitis outbreak has reached 11, with the number of cases over 100.

The Massachusetts pharmacy that supplied a back-pain steroid treatment blamed for a deadly nationwide meningitis outbreak isn't licensed to distribute the drug in Minnesota, the Associated Press reports. About 120 people have been sickened by the outbreak nationwide, including three in Minnesota, and 12 have died.

The Minnesota Department of Health has confirmed a 10th fungal meningitis case in the state linked to tainted injectables produced by a Massachusetts pharmacy. The patient is a woman in her 60s.

Minnesota health officials say 129 clinics throughout the state purchased drugs from a Massachusetts pharmacy that is under investigation for distributing tainted steroids. State officials don't know how many people received drugs made by the company but are in the process of contacting each clinic.

The Health Department now says three Minnesota women in their 40s are hospitalized with the rare form of fungal meningitis linked to injections of a steroid provided by a Massachusetts lab. That lab recalled all of its products over the weekend. Nationwide the outbreak includes more than 90 people, seven of whom have died.

The Minnesota Department of Health confirmed Wednesday two new cases of fungal meningitis linked to the national outbreak, increasing the number of patients diagnosed with the potentially deadly infection to seven statewide.
