Fill up: Sub-$3 gas prices are expected to stay in Minnesota throughout 2015

Drivers in Minnesota enjoying the sub-$3 gas prices can expect to continue saving money throughout 2015, as the cost of filling up is unlikely to rise any time soon.

Estimates from the federal Energy Information Administration predict gas prices across the United States will actually fall further in the first half of 2015, driven by weakening global demand and a growth in domestic supply.

Nationally, gas prices had been above $3 per gallon for almost four years before it dipped below that threshold in November, according to Time.

And in Minnesota, average prices for regular unleaded were at a 12-month high of $3.57 per gallon just five months ago, but it now stands at just over $2.85 per gallon, according to the AAA daily fuel gauge report.

Drivers are likely to be spending even less on gas in the coming weeks, with USA Today reporting the national average could be pushed down from $2.92 to $2.79 a gallon within the next month.

Vehicle owners who know where to look can already fill their tanks with gas costing as little as $2.64 per gallon at QC Service in Twin Cities suburb Brooklyn Park, which according to is the lowest in the state.

The website also notes that you are likely to find the lowest average gas station prices in Beltrami County, in northern Minnesota.
