Finally, an answer to the question: 'Is sushi cheap in the Twin Cities?'

Winning the prize for the most bizarre indicator of food costs across the U.S. is the "Sushinomics Index."

Still, if you want to know how the price of sushi in Twin Cities restaurants compare to the rest of the country, Bloomberg is the place to go.

The magazine found that a basic sushi roll is going to set you back around $7.04 in Minneapolis-St. Paul – above the $6.99 national average.

This puts it in 10th place as the most expensive metro area to grab a sushi roll in the U.S. – devastating, we know.

While inflation has pushed the cost of every day items up over the past five years, this hasn't been reflected in the price of sushi, at least not in the Twin Cities.

According to the index, the price of sushi in the metro area has only risen by 0.7 percent over the past five years.

But it did rise 2.3 percent over the past year, which Bloomberg says might have something to do with the "booming" worldwide demand for tuna.

The Twin Cities also scored pretty highly for the cost of "premium rolls" – the average cost of the two most expensive sushi rolls on the menu – which sets back metro area diners $17.45 on average.
