Fire at southern Minnesota farm kills 2,000 pigs
Around 2,000 pigs died in a fire at a southern Minnesota farm Thursday morning.
According to Blooming Prairie Fire Chief Dean Naatz, the owner of the farm saw smoke coming from the north side of a building around 8 a.m. The owner was able to escape without injury.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and no further information has been released.
"In a loss like this, it's going to be tough to tell what actually started the fire," Naatz told the Post-Bulletin. "Due to the age of the building and the extent of loss, it could be a number of things, honestly."
Fire departments from Blooming Prairie, Hayfield and Claremont put out the fire.
