Firefighters in Minneapolis spent the overnight hours into early Monday morning battling a three-alarm fire at a three-story building.

The fire at the corner of Chicago Avenue South and East Lake Street was reported around 10:30 p.m. Sunday and fire crews worked through the night to put it out.

As of 9 a.m. Monday, crews were still working to put out some remaining hot spots.

The building housed apartments and a number of businesses, including:

  • Galaxy Wireless Phone Repair Specialists
  • Michael's Hip Hop Shop
  • Patricia Hair Braiding & Accessories
  • Rene's Latin Dance & Music Studio
  • Twin Cities Drivers License Rehab
  • Marisqueria Mar Y'Tierra

WCCO reports that several businesses and apartments were destroyed, but it's unclear if the building was a total loss.

According to the Old Minneapolis Facebook page, the building was the home of Robert's Shoe Store for decades. It closed in 2014 after 77 years at the corner of Chicago and Lake.
