Fire department rescues dog that fell through ice in Bloomington
The Bloomington Fire Department saved a dog that fell through thin ice Wednesday morning.
It happened on the north end of Upper Penn Lake, which is part of Haeg Park in Bloomington, not too far from the intersection of I-494 and I-35W.
"Someone called 911 and said the dog had gone through the ice and the owner was trying to get on the ice to save it," Bloomington Fire Chief Ulie Seal told BMTN.
The dog had likely been in the water for about 10 minutes and was "cold and scared and probably tired" when they pulled it to safety.
Seal described the ice conditions as "thin and rotten everywhere."
BMTN has reached out to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for updates on ice conditions around the state. We'll update the story accordingly when the info arrives.
