Fire destroys barn in central Minnesota, owner loses 5,000 bales of hay

A barn is a total loss after going up in flames Monday afternoon. 

According to the Stearns County Sheriff's Office, the barn was reported on fire at 2:31 p.m., about six miles southwest of St. Martin.

The owner of the barn, a 62-year-old man from Paynesville, was not home when the fire erupted.

Fortunately, no livestock was inside the barn at the time, but the farmer did lose approximately 5,000 bales of hay. 

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
