Half of the restaurants in a tiny Minnesota town that good-naturedly dubs itself the "restaurant capital of the world" were destroyed early Thursday.

Two of the four restaurants in Dorset, population 25, burned in front of tear-filled owners' eyes, the Park Rapids Enterprise reports.

Dorset House is a complete loss, and Companeros was severely damaged in the fire, according to the Companeros Facebook page.

"Our hearts go out to the owners and the community of Dorset ... huge loss for this iconic community known as the restaurant capital of the world," the post says.

Six fire departments attempted to control the blaze, which began at 3:30 a.m. during a lightning storm – officials haven't said if lighting was the cause of the fire, the Park Rapids Enterprise notes. Crews on the scene scrambled for water, calling every available tanker truck – some still had to go fill up at local lakes.

"The lightning went into the roof and into the building and then into the bar," Kathy Schmidt, of Campaneros, told the Star Tribune.

There are no reports of injuries from the fire or the severe weather, according to reports.
