Fire destroys haunted house in Burnsville

A fire broke out early Sunday morning at the Buck Hill ski and snowboard area in Burnsville. KARE 11 reports flames were shooting through a temporary tent structure when firefighters arrived. The haunted house was under construction and scheduled to open early next month. No injuries were reported and the cause of the blaze is still under investigation.

Stephen and Teresa Datta flew from Rochester to Pontiac, Mich., to be married at the Erebus Haunted Attraction, one of the world's largest haunted houses, the Oakland Press reports. They both wore black and she carried a bouquet of black flowers. They were married by a TV show host dressed as a warewolf.

A fire that likely started early Friday in the basement of the once-grand Columbian Hotel in the small western Minnesota town of Ortonville quickly consumed the structure, firefighters said. The building had been under renovation, the Star Tribune reports.

Investigators could not determine what caused the blaze that destroyed the landmark Swany White mill. The deputy state fire marshal said in a report released Tuesday that he could not conduct a thorough investigation because crews demolished the building to ensure the fire was out.

Ready for winter? The ski and snowboard season has arrived early in Minnesota. Wild Mountain Ski and Snowboard in Taylor Falls is officially open for business, according to WCCO. It is reportedly the first ski area to open in the country. A spokesperson at Afton Alps also says crews are testing snow machines earlier than normal this year.

A massive fire Tuesday evening destroyed the Swany White flour mill in Freeport, Minn. The entire structure collapsed as bystanders filled the streets of the Central Minnesota town to watch firefighters battle the flames, which could be seen for miles.

Fire destroyed Zup's grocery store in Babbitt and an adjoining drug store. The Duluth News Tribune reports three other businesses suffered water damage. The total damage is estimated at $1 million.
