Firefighters rescue worker after trench fall in Rochester
Firefighters in Rochester rescued a construction worker who fell into a trench Tuesday morning.
The incident happened at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at 5501 65th Street NW, with the Rochester Fire Department called to report of a construction worker who had fallen 15-20 feet.
ABC 6 reports that firefighters were able to rescue the worker, who was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
In a statement, Rochester FD noted that the risks presented by construction trenches go beyond falls.
"There are hidden dangers associated with trenches including but not limited to low oxygen levels and toxic gasses resulting in asphyxiation," it said.
"Trenches can, and will collapse onto unsuspecting and untrained rescuers which could result in death."
