A St. Paul man accused in a grisly murder of his wife now faces first and second-degree murder charges.

A grand jury returned an indictment against Steven Johnson Tuesday, KSTP reports. Prosecutors say Johnson has admitted shooting his wife and cutting her body into pieces, which he stored in plastic bins in a friend's garage.

The Pioneer Press reports Tuesday was the deadline for the grand jury to indict Johnson. He was reportedly ready to plead guilty to second-degree murder at a hearing earlier this month, but the Ramsey County attorney's office announced it was seeking a first-degree charge.
