Two people were killed when a police chase in southeastern Minnesota ended with the fleeing car crashing into a pole.
The incident unfolded in Owatonna just before noon Thursday, when police were called to a domestic assault involving a man hitting a woman inside of a vehicle.
The vehicle had left the area before police arrived and it was unknown if the female victim was still in the car with the man.
However, a short time later Owatonna police spotted the vehicle heading west on 26th Street Northwest near I-35.
The driver fled when the officer tried to pull him over, heading southbound on I-35 at high speeds.
But at the end of the off-ramp at West Bridge Street in Owatonna, the car collided with a pole with a traffic light attached.
Both the driver and the passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.
No details regarding the two victims have been released at this stage.
