Florida city melts away White Bear Lake ice cream sundae record

Only two months after a business in White Bear Lake set a new record for the world's longest ice cream sundae, a Florida group has scooped away their glory, The Associated Press reports.

Grandma's Bakery in White Bear Lake assembled hundreds of volunteers in June to build a 1,101-foot long sundae. It broke the previous mark -- recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records  -- of 670 feet and one inch set by a North Dakota group in 2012.

More than 1,000 people turned up Sunday to build the new record-breaking sundae in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., the Palm Beach Post reports.

Participants paid $30 per family in the event, which helped raise funds for Alliance for Kids -- an organization that helps bring the community together to help hospitalized children.

According to the Post, the sundae measured at 1,249.9 feet, which was verified by an independent observer for the new Guinness record.

Approximately 350 gallons of ice cream was used to build the sundae, which was made of vanilla ice cream, chocolate and strawberries.

Putting the length of the Florida sundae in perspective, the tasty dessert measured the length of four football fields.
