Former Duluth youth basketball coach faces new sexual assault charges

A former Duluth youth basketball coach is facing more sexual assault charges involving young girls, the Duluth News Tribune reports.

Wendell Anthony Greene, 37, was charged Thursday with one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct after being accused of sexually assaulting a teenager he coached.

According to a criminal complaint, the girl told authorities that sometime during the spring of 2010 -- when she was 14 -- that she had sexual intercourse with Greene at her home.

The paper says Greene has coached several basketball programs, including 6th and 7th grade girls in Duluth and Hermantown.

Greene was charged last June with sexually assaulting two preteen girls, and has remained in the custody at the Aitkin County Jail on $75,000 bail.

The News Tribune says that Greene's attorney, Thomas Skare, is challenging the statements of the two girls, claiming that there is evidence that one of the girls has a problem being truthful and is receiving counseling for it.

Greene is scheduled to go to trial in September in the first case.
